About Alissa

I walked into my first yoga class not knowing what to expect. As the teacher guided us to follow the flow of breath, notice body sensations in postures, and relax the busyness of the mind, I felt a connection deep within myself that had been missing for a long time. Leaving that first class I made a pledge never to be far from the practice. That was some twenty years ago.

I completed my first 200 hours of training in Sivananda Yoga (a style of Hatha practice) at The Freehold Yoga Center in NJ and began teaching in 2006 wherever I could find space. I taught neighbors on the beach, seniors at recreation centers, girl scout troops, - anywhere I could share the practice and hone my skills. In NYC, I completed two children’s yoga training programs and was hired to teach kids ages 3-7 at The Seashore School in Long Branch. I found a home at The Studio in Allenhurst which gave me time and opportunity to teach yoga and continue my studies, from reflexology to Bhuddist meditation. I became certified in Yin Yoga which is a wonderful practice to complement Hatha yoga. I continue to deepen my practice in subtle body awareness and meditation with the gifted teachers Tias and Surya Little from Prajna Yoga.

Although I teach, I consider myself a forever student. I abide by a saying I learned at Freehold Yoga Center, “the teacher teaches the student as much as the student teaches the teacher”

I’m grateful for my husband Jeff and our children Bobby and Abbey, always supporting me along the path.

I look forward to our next practice…
